Tax Assistance

The tax filing deadline for both federal and state returns is July 15, 2020.  The Orange County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is committed to assisting low and moderate income taxpayers with completing and electronically filing their returns.  Although we have suspended our standard in-person services due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have developed new ways to provide this FREE service. 

To use our VITA services you must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder and have gross income below $65,000 for a single person or below $90,000 for a household.  We are currently able to complete only Federal and NC state tax returns.  Please review these additional Eligibility Guidelines.

Our Drive-Thru Drop Off Service will be available during the month of June at designated times at both the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill and the Passmore Center in Hillsborough.  Learn More

Our Virtual VITA Service is appropriate for taxpayers who have access to the internet, have a computer and scanner or a phone with a camera, and are familiar with uploading and transferring documents.  Learn More
