Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
VITA is an Orange County Volunteer Connect 55+ (VC 55+) volunteer program that provides free federal and state income tax preparation to eligible individuals with low-to-middle income, regardless of age or county of residence. Our tax season begins February 1st and runs until April 15th.
After the end of the tax season, we provide assistance with prior year returns and amendments. Post-season services are available by appointment only and are limited to those who have use Orange County VITA services in the past 3 years. For more information, please call 919-245-4240.
You may also use MyFreeTaxes, a United Way Sponsored program, to file both Federal and State returns for free if your income (or AGI) is under $66,000: https://www.myfreetaxes.com/ Look for the “Virtual Assistant” in the software for any needed assistance.
