Orange County Arts Commission creates artist support fund
The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting our entire economy, but particularly the artists whose livelihood depends on audiences, and the organizations that give these artists a platform. Every cancellation impacts everyone from the artist to the venue staff and keeps critical revenue from our important cultural organizations.
The Orange County Arts Commission has created an Orange County Arts Support Fund to support artists, arts industry workers, and arts organizations who have been impacted by COVID-19. $18,850 has been awarded to 45 artists so far. A second cycle of grants will open Friday, May 1. To learn more about applying for funds, click here.
We are currently accepting donations for this fund. If you’d like to donate online, you can make a contribution through Go Fund Me here. Our director Katie Murray has set up this fundraiser because the commission currently lacks an online donation mechanism. The ArtsCenter in Carrboro is serving as the fiscal agent for this fund and will assist the commission in dispursing money to approved applicants.100% of donations will be distributed to the arts community through the commission’s application process (less GoFundMe fees: 2.9% + .30 per donation). Please note that this is not a fundraiser by or for The ArtsCenter.
If you’d like to make a donation with a check, please mail your contribution to The ArtsCenter. Be sure to memo “OCASF.”
