Glass On The Side (GOTS) Program Expansion

Currently, you can recycle glass bottle and jars separately at all staffed Waste and Recycling Centers. In the coming weeks, the GOTS program will be expanding to all unstaffed sites. The County is doing this because of the savings and efficiency gains from separating glass bottles and jars.

You may still recycle your glass in your curbside recycling cart. Orange County does not recommend making special trips to the Waste and Recycling Centers just for depositing separated glass. If you are headed to the sites or are nearby, then you can bring us your glass bottles and jars. For more information on the GOTS program and FAQ, please read the May 2020 solid waste e-news.

Reminder: New Rules on Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste at the Waste & Recycling Centers

As of Monday August 3, Orange County residents are allowed to bring up to 60 cubic feet of residential construction and demolition waste per household per day or weekend period from their primary residence to Eubanks Road, Ferguson Road, High Rock Road or Walnut Grove Church Road Waste and Recycling Centers. C&D is not accepted at the Bradshaw Quarry Road Center.

Updates to the website at https://www.orangecountync.gov/1149/Waste-Recycling-Centers are now on line to help you envision that amount and detail the other limits and requirements.

TrashDash 2020

Are you looking for an opportunity to get outside and clean up your community? You can virtually join the Keep America Beautiful Trash Dash on September 20th. If you aren’t familiar with ‘plogging’, it is a combination of running while picking up litter. The annual TrashDash is intended to raise awareness and emphasize the benefits around beautifying our communities, eliminating litter and recycling. This year TrashDash will bring awareness around littered personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks and gloves found in our communities and how to keep our communities safe, clean, green and beautiful.

If you are interested in participating in this year’s TrashDash, register here. Please participate safely, bring gloves, bags to collect trash, water and a litter picker if you have one.

Can’t get enough trash talk?

Listen to us the second Tuesday of each month from 8:15 am to 8:45 am on the 3-D News on local radio WHUP 104.7 FM, over the air and streaming.
