Shred-A-Thons & Other Shredding News

Our Shred-A-Thons are scheduled!

  • Saturday October 12th 10am-2pm at the Eubanks Park and Ride Lot, 1768 Eubanks Rd, Chapel Hill, 27516
  • Saturday October 19th 10am-2pm at behind the Home Depot in Hillsborough, 625 Hampton Pointe, Hillsborough, NC, 27278
  • There is a four box or bag limit per person or business.
  • Open to Orange County residents, small businesses and local government employees.

In other shredding news, Orange County can no longer accept shredded paper in the blue recycle carts.
Because the current recycling processor is no longer accepting shredded material mixed in with single stream recyclables, we cannot accept shredded paper in the blue carts or at the Waste and Recycling centers.
If you would like your confidential material recycled, we ask that you please bring it to be shredded at one of our semi-annual shred-a-thons or utilize the new Shred Center. If you choose to shred your paper at home rather than bring it to one of the shredding operations that Orange County offers, the remaining option is to dispose of it with your household trash.

We are excited to launch our newest recycling operation in Orange County!

Shred Center

Beginning Tuesday, September 3rd, the free Shred Center will be available to Orange County residents, Orange County small businesses, Orange County Departments, all Town of Chapel Hill, Town of Carrboro, and Town of Hillsborough employees, as well as Town departments.

Shredding will be available by appointment only between 9am-2pm. Please call (919)968-2788 or email to schedule an appointment.

  • Mondays & Tuesdays – open to County Departments and Town Departments.
  • Wednesdays – open to Orange county residents and Town and County employees for personal shredding.
  • Thursdays – open to Orange County small businesses including not-for-profit organizations.

All users will be limited to either four (4) “banker boxes” or four (4) 13 gallon “kitchen” trash bags or a combination of the two. Make sure to bring only confidential paper. No discs, credit cards, magazines, newspapers, or general bulk mail will be accepted. Please remove all staples and clips.

Note: The Shred Center will not be replacing shred-a-thons in the future. It is simply meant to supplement the time between shred-a-thons, and allow OC residents, businesses, and town departments more opportunities to recycle confidential paper.

Mulch & Yard Waste

Our locally made yard waste mulch is 50% off for only one more week! Hurry over to the Eubanks Rd Landfill before September 1st to get a 3-cubic yard scoop for the fantastic price of $12.50! We load, you tarp.
Please remember, when bringing your yard waste to the Waste & Recycling Centers or Landfill, that we will not accept any logs that are larger than 12” in diameter, or longer than 10’. Thank you!

Calling for Volunteers!
