About National Nutrition Month®

National Nutrition Month® is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Registered Dietitian Day, celebrated March 11th, increases awareness of registered dietitians (RDs) as the indispensable providers of food and nutrition services and recognizes RDs for their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives.

During National Nutrition Month® 2015 and beyond, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages everyone to “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle.” This year’s theme focuses on consuming fewer calories, making informed food choices and getting daily exercise in order to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of chronic disease and promote overall health.

“Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle supports the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA’s food icon, MyPlate, and can accommodate the food preferences, traditions and cultures of many diverse groups. For more information about MyPlate, go to

A Healthful Lifestyle

A healthful lifestyle, with regular physical activity and an eating pattern that meets individual nutrient needs within calorie limits, is vital to maintaining good health and quality of life. A healthy eating plan emphasizes nutrient-rich foods and beverages including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat dairy products, seafood, lean meats and poultry, eggs, beans and peas, and nuts and seeds. Join the Orange County Health Department and Orange County Government as we encourage residents and employees to “Bite into a Healthy Lifestyle.”
