THE KAREN YOUTH ART GROUP
April 2nd through June 16, 2014
This show, the second of four in the Library Gallery’s 2014 exhibition calendar showcasing young artists features The Karen Youth Art Group whose art work emanates from past and present experiences. Many of these young artists are in local high schools, some are older. All have cycled through various refugee camps in Thailand to where they and their families fled from political repression in Myamar (Burma). The art work in this particular show was generated in an ongoing joint project by FRANK Gallery, the Carrboro Branch Library and Transplanting Traditions Farm where many Karens cultivate plots of land.
This exhibition is made possible by a grant from the Friends of the Carrboro Branch Library and the Orange County Arts Commission with additional support from FRANK Gallery, Transplanting Traditions Farm, Chapel Hill High School and the Art Therapy Institute.
A reception will also be held on Saturday, May 17th at 10:30 am.
