Orange County Public Library Community Literature Policy
Because the library has a limited amount of space available for information of community interest, we must limit the types of materials that are permitted for display. This policy applies to all non-library materials to be posted or distributed at the library via bulletin boards, service desks, and community information displays, including materials advertising non-library events held in the library meeting room. The views expressed in community literature are not the views of the Orange County Public Library or of Orange County Government. The Library Director has absolute discretion to not allow materials to be posted or displayed or remove materials that have been posted or displayed.
Allowable items are those pertaining to:
- government organizations
- charitable organizations
Items that are not permitted include:
- advertisements for businesses
- notices from private individuals
- items featuring profanity
Community literature materials must be brought to a service desk for consideration by library staff. If approved, staff will date and place the materials, which will be kept for no more than 30 days. The library will be unable to return community literature materials after they are submitted and cannot guarantee that space will be available even if an item meets the requirements of the policy. Appeal may be made to the Library Director or Assistant Library Director.
This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis.
The Orange County Public Library Community Literature Policy is in compliance with the Orange County Facilities Use Policy, which can be reviewed online.
