Orange County Aging to host Estate Planning Workshops

ORANGE COUNTY (January 10, 2017) -- Orange County Department on Aging invites the public to take advantage of free estate planning workshops conducted by, Amy Osborne, Attorney-at-Law and Certified Public Accountant.

Fee: Free

The four-part series of workshops on Estate Planning will take place at the Passmore Center located at 103 Meadowlands Drive in Hillsborough.

Workshop Dates and Topics

Monday, January 22 – Basic Estate Planning: How to Protect Your Things in Three Easy Steps

Topics: 1) Know the Rules – Guardianship, Intestacy, Probate, Power of Attorney Will, Trust, and Administration; 2) Know your Predators – Taxes, Family Relationships, Care Costs, and Accidents/Lawsuits; and 3) Know your Options – Documents vs. Planning, and Estate Planning.

Tuesday, January 23 – Estate Planning for Elder Law Issues

Topics: 1) Avoiding undue influence by family and acquaintances, wills and the probate process, avoiding probate with Revocable Living Trust, and asset protection through Irrevocable Trusts; and 2) Providing for disabled beneficiary with Special Needs Trusts, Irrevocable Burial Trusts, Outside Probate, and Joint Ownership and Beneficiary Designations.

Monday, January 29 – Trusts 101

Topics: 1) What is a trust? Why do I care? Aren’t those just for “rich people?” and 2) Revocable Living Trusts, Special Needs Trusts and Irrevocable Trusts

Tuesday, January 30 – Paying for Long-Term Care

Topics: 1) Private Pay – Why should I pay for it and what to expect; 2) Long-Term Care Insurance – What it is and what are your options; 3) Medicare/Medicaid – Which ones help with long-term care, what are the basic requirements and rules; and 4) VA Aid and Attendance – basic requirements, rules and upcoming changes.

Deadline to Register: Tuesday, January 23.

All four classes will be held from 3-5 p.m. There will be opportunities for questions and answers during all sessions.
