My name is Claudia Yerena and I am a Family Navigator for the Family Success Alliance. I am from Mexico, but I have lived in Chapel Hill for more than 20 years. I am a proud mom of two teenage boys, and a 5 year old girl. My family is my life and I want nothing but the best for them. As a mother, I want to give my kids the best opportunities to be successful and to teach them to overcome challenges in life. I wish this not only for my own kids but the kids in my community.
I have been a Navigator for 5 years but I have always been actively involved in my community. What I love the most about FSA is that it not only focuses on the children, but in the family as a whole. The program connects families struggling to make ends meet with adequate resources and community connections. Working with FSA gives me the opportunity to contribute more to my community, to advocate for their needs and make system changes. FSA focuses not only on connecting families to resources but to teach them how to advocate for themselves and share knowledge with their families and neighbors. Through our Community Council, FSA is building leaders in the community to make Orange County a better place for everyone.
