ANIMAL SERVICES UPDATES REGARDING COVID-19

 
ORANGE COUNTY, NC (March 16, 2020) – Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) has been implementing measures to prevent or slow community spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Currently, the most effective measure is to encourage social distancing in an effort to protect both our staff and the public.
 
Some of the actions taken by OCAS include but are not limited to:

• Postponing or cancelling community events that involve larger gatherings until further notice.
• Staggering employee schedules to limit person-to-person contact and requesting that employees telework when possible.
• Encouraging members of the public to utilize online services when possible (i.e. licensing payments) and recommending that the public call with questions or concerns as opposed to coming into the facility to speak with someone directly.
• Requesting that those who need to surrender animals to the shelter delay the surrender if at all possible.
• Requesting that only those who are serious about adopting stop by to visit available pets to minimize person-to-person contact.
• Implementing additional disinfection protocols for public and employee areas within the facility.
