Orange County Recreation Summer Camp Cancellation; Summer Virtual Enrichment Offerings
Dear Summer Camp Families,
It is with deep regret that we inform you of the cancellation of all onsite 2020 Orange County Recreation Summer Camps. You can view the list of cancelled programs on our website. However, we do plan to offer summer enrichment virtual program opportunities (please see below).
Over the past few weeks, Orange County Commissioners, Mayors, and Management staff have been monitoring North Carolina developments related to COVID-19. With guidance from local and national public health agencies the difficult decision to cancel summer camp programs throughout Orange County was agreed upon.
Due to the cancellation, full refunds will be issued for summer camp fees that have been paid to date. View our COVID-19 refund policy.
For residents interested in engaging their children in summer enrichment activities from home, the Orange County Recreation Division is offering many of our cancelled camps virtually beginning on June 15. These virtual enrichment programs will be similar to the offerings that we had planned to provide your child throughout the summer. They will be conducted live with the ability for your child to virtually interact with the instructor and other kids in the programs. There will be a nominal fee for these programs to cover supply costs that will be provided to participants through our Rec-InstaCart service with supplies delivered to your doorstep. Registration will be conducted through our online registration portal. If you need assistance with registering you can contact Lisa Brashear at 919-245-2660 or e-mail her at lbrashear@orangecountync.gov.
Lastly, in conjunction with the County Health Department, Risk Manager’s office, and County Management, we are currently developing COVID-19 guidelines and procedures for opening our facilities, when conditions allow and in the safest manner possible. Once completed, these guidelines and procedures will be posted on our website and distributed to you through our listserv and Facebook page. At that time we will continue to offer virtual programming for your child(ren) to engage in recreation programming during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Recreation Division Staff supports everyone practicing physical distancing at this time until restrictions are rescinded. Please stay safe everyone.
