North Carolina Requires Face Coverings
The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings, commonly referred to as masks, in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. - Cloth face coverings may slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.
- Cloth face coverings can be made from household items.
- COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are infected. That’s why it’s important for everyone to practice social distancing (staying at least 6 feet away from other people) and wear cloth face coverings in public settings. Cloth face coverings provide an extra layer to help prevent the respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and onto other people.
- Orange County Emergency Services and the towns are distributing face-coverings to those who cannot afford one. Please see below or visit this page on the website for updated distributions.
For more information, please check Orange County's 'Face Coverings' page. - Newsletter: Sign up for the COVID-19 newsletter from the Orange County Health Department.
- Text: To receive daily text updates, text ocnchealth to 888-777.
- Hotline: Questions about COVID-19? Call (919) 245-6111 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Spanish language and other languages available.
- Email: Email your questions to covid19@orangecountync.gov.

Curbside Party 2020Friday, June 19th we had our first socially distanced special event! It was a celebration of many things: encouraging to the seniors that we will get through the pandemic together, acknowledging Juneteenth, celebrating March-June Birthdays, and giving a shout-out for Father’s Day. This curbside party lifted many spirits as the seniors waited for their curbside meal - some even got out to dance with provided (sanitized) pom poms. Special thanks to Seasons of Southpoint for sponsoring the event - and for planning ahead to learn everyone's favorite songs!

Activity Engagement CoachingAs we all continue to spend a lot of time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be challenging to find ways to keep loved ones with dementia engaged throughout the day.
For caregivers connected to our various dementia support programs, we are now offering one-on-one consultations (via phone or GoToMeeting) where we can brainstorm together with you to identify enjoyable activities that are - Person-centered, i.e. tailored to your loved one’s current and past interests, likes, & preferences
- Meaningful
- Appropriately modified to current level of cognitive ability, thereby reducing frustration and stress
If interested, please contact Lisa Meinert (919-245-4251), certified Dementia Care Partner and Activity Professional or Marie Dagger, OTR/L (919-245-4279).
