Orange County Recreation Division COVID-19 Fall Athletic League Update
Wednesday, August 19, 2020
Dear Orange County Recreation Participants,
It is with deep regret that we will be cancelling the 2020 fall youth soccer league, adult softball league, and youth flag football league.
Over the past few months, Orange County Commissioners, Mayors, and management staff have continued to monitor North Carolina developments related to COVID-19. With guidance from local and national public health agencies, the difficult decision to cancel these programs throughout Orange County was agreed upon in an effort to reduce the spread and keep our community healthy.
For patrons who are interested in engaging their child(ren) in activities from home, the Orange County Recreation Division is offering fall virtual programming beginning on August 31; for a complete listing of programs, please review our fall virtual programming guide at http://www.orangecountync.gov/DocumentCenter/View/12347/Recreation-Program-Guide-Aug-Nov-2020-PDF. These virtual enrichment programs will be similar to the offerings previously planned for your child in the fall. They will be conducted live, with the ability for your child to virtually interact with the instructor and other kids in the programs. There will be a nominal fee for these programs to cover supplies, which will be delivered to participants’ doorsteps through our Rec-InstaCart service. Registration is conducted through our online registration software http://www.orangecountync.gov/ActivityRegistration. If you need assistance with registering you can contact Lisa Brashear at 919-245-2660 during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) or e-mail her at lbrashear@orangecountync.gov.
Lastly, we are developing onsite outdoor programming including mini sports clinics, instructional recreation programs, and drive-in movies in the park. These programs will be implemented once COVID-19 conditions in Orange County permit us to do so. Information on these onsite programs will be posted on our website when approved. Even when onsite programming is permitted to resume, we will continue to offer virtual programming for your child(ren) to engage in recreation activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our hope is to offer our fall cancelled athletic leagues in spring 2021.
The Recreation Division Staff supports everyone practicing physical distancing and wearing a mask at this time. Please stay safe everyone.
