IRS Delays Start of the Income Tax Filing SeasonThe IRS will not be accepting 2020 income tax returns until February 12th. There are still over 6 million paper returns from 2019 that have not been processed, so you will definitely want to electronically file your return this year and you should use direct deposit to receive the fastest refund.
The Orange County VITA Program will again be offering income tax return preparation services at no charge to those with low and moderate incomes. However, due to the pandemic, we are encouraging everyone to take advantage of our new and improved Virtual VITA service or our new Do-It-Yourself VITA approach. Get the details at our website or by phone at 919-245-4242.
Those that are not able to participate in one of these programs, should leave their name and contact information at 919-245-4242 and we will call you after February 1 to discuss options for providing assistance with limited in-person contact.

HELP US HELP YOU BY COMPLETING A SURVEY!Did you know that it’s very important to give your feedback on our senior centers’ programs, courses and classes, the lunch program, etc. – even those happening during COVID-19? Feedback on our activities helps the staff develop better programs, and meets funding requirements. The surveys also show the impact our senior center programs have on participants’ lives which may influence future funding.
To get feedback on our programs, we are collecting the Senior Center Surveys now through the end of January (or any time really) for our ongoing classes/programs and any one time events. If your program leader/instructor doesn’t give you a survey, please ask them to send you one. If you completed a survey for one program you don’t have to do so for another program, unless it’s for the course specific. View the Senior Centers Survey on our website View the Course Specific Evaluations on our website
Email completed surveys to: ocseniorcenters@orangecountync.gov or maustin@orangecountync.gov.

From the Prime Time Players: Another Way OutHave you ever considered the Freedom of being a Mistress vs the Opportunities of being a Wife? The dialogue is primarily between a man and his mistress trying to decide whether or not they like this arrangement or whether they should be married. They decide to test their thinking by “compromising themselves” and, after experimentation, decide to get married.
“Another Way Out” was originally produced by Washington Square Players, at the Comedy Theater in New York City on November 13th 1916. It was written by Lawrence Langner and produced under the direction of Mr. Phillip Moeller.

JOB SEARCH ACTIVITIES: What you can do while you're home We know that 50% of all jobs are NOT posted. We also know that 70-to-85% of job search success is credited to NETWORKING. Here's an easy way to do some important work while you're waiting for your COVID/19 vaccinations or helping out in some way.
First, read the attached Networking Thoughts. Then print the Contact Information sheet from the link in this article. Sit down with a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or even a bottle of water. If you want to, set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes. Take a pen, and start writing down the names and a little more information about everybody you know! Yes, everybody -- people you went to school with, worked with, volunteered with, went bowling or dancing or worked out with. Add your neighbors, your friends, people you met and served with if you were in the military. Don't forget people you go to church with. And anyone else you can remember. One secret of NETWORKING is this: anybody you know can help you with your job search. For one simple reason: They know someone you don't. See more about Local Networking Groups. We'll continue these thoughts and next steps in the next Endless Possibilities. In the meantime, should you have any questions or want to get a jump start on looking for work, I'm here on behalf of Orange County Department On Aging, to help you.
