MASTER AGING PLAN SURVEY

The Next Master Aging Plan!
What is most important to you?

As the experts in what it means to be an older adult in Orange County, we’re counting on your input to help develop our 5-year Master Aging Plan. This strategic plan will guide our age-friendly community initiatives, events, programming, and policy from 2022-2027. The Master Aging Plan goals should reflect what is most important to you!

Please share your thoughts through this anonymous survey which will be available from June 1 - June 30. To access the survey electronically visit www.orangecountync.gov/2021-MAP-Survey or scan the QR code above with your smart phone camera. Call the Aging Helpline at (919) 968-2087 if you need help accessing or completing the survey. You may also pick up a paper copy of the survey at the Passmore and Seymour Centers.

Orange County Department on Aging Director, Janice Tyler, sat down with 97.9 The Hill's Brighton McConnell on July 7 to discuss the new five-year Master Aging Plan. Listen to the podcast here and take the MAP Survey to let your voice be heard!

TWO BY TWO VISITS

Two silhouette figures sitting in chairs talking.

Two by Two Visits

As the Senior Centers are phasing in and adding more small group activities to keep everyone safe, we would like to give you and a friend the opportunity to visit with one another inside the centers. Please stop by the front desk to check in and receive your Two by Two passes for your visit in special areas around and inside the centers with social distancing to keep everyone safe. No need to make a reservation.  We ask that you limit your visit time inside the center to two hours so others might have the opportunity.

Please note spaces are limited, so once the designated areas are filled and until a pair leaves and returns their passes, there will be no other space available. There is space to visit on the patios at the centers, please take advantage of this space as well, no “pass” needed for these spaces. Please remember to practice your social distancing.

Where’s My Tax Refund?

Although most returns are processed timely and refunds sent within 21 days , the IRS is facing significant delays in processing many tax returns.  At last count they are working through millions of returns that require some level of manual processing.  This might be because of a discrepancy between the taxpayer’s request for stimulus payments and IRS records, possible identity theft, or other issues.  You can check the status of your refund at  www.irs.gov/refunds or by downloading the IRS2Go app.

Suggestions for Job Seekers 55+ Years of Age - Next Steps

As mentioned in the previous issue, this provides information and links to materials you can use for the next steps of your job search.

GUIDING YOUR CONTACTS:
Why do you ask other people for help in your job search? Because they know people you don’t. When you do this, what do you expect them to do?  The most you should expect is... for them to connect, refer or introduce you, or give you names of people they know.

When asking for help, many job seekers give their resume to the other person. The problem with this is your resume has to be translated. The reader will ask “who do you want to meet?” or, “what kind of job are you looking for?” or, “do you have a target list?”  This takes time. Most people will say they don’t have time.

HERE’S A BETTER WAY TO GUIDE PEOPLE. Prepare and use a NETWORKING BRIEF.

Next issue we’ll discuss Networking. Because 50% of all jobs are NOT posted, understanding how networking works today and doing it effectively is critical for job seekers.

As you continue to make progress, let me know if you have any questions or want more information, and feel free to contact me at 919.616.8778 or skomives@orangecountync.gov. I'm here to help you.
