Free Tax Prep Online Through GetYourRefund

Orange County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) has teamed up with GetYourRefund.org/Cash4NC to help you file your taxes for free online with the help of certified VITA volunteers. Get help filing your income taxes, including filing for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

EITC is the largest government benefit for workers, and one of the two most effective anti-poverty programs in the United States. To receive your EITC, you must claim it on a tax return. Unfortunately, one in five eligible households aren’t claiming this benefit.

To help more families get the money they’ve earned, the nonprofit Code for America partnered with the IRS VITA program to create a free digital tax prep service called GetYourRefund.org/Cash4NC. The program is accurate and trustworthy; volunteers are IRS-certified, and each return is double-checked for accuracy. To use the service, visit GetYourRefund.org/Cash4NC.

Get Ready to File Your 2021 Income Tax Return

The Orange County VITA Program will again be offering income tax return preparation services at no charge to those with low and moderate incomes, beginning in February.  Details will be posted after January 20th
at
www.orangecounync.gov/ocncvita or by phone at 919-245-4242.

Now is the time to start gathering your tax documents. In addition to last year’s tax return, you’ll want to watch for W-2 forms from employers, 1099 forms from banks, social security, pensions, and investment accounts,  1095-A forms if you had ACA/Obamacare insurance, and the Notice 1444 that came with your stimulus check. Typically, forms start arriving by mail or are available online toward the end of January.

Jan. is Glaucoma Awareness Month. Medicare covers Glaucoma exam for high risk. Meet with a Medicare Counselor for assistance: www.orangecountync.gov/OCNCSHIIP or call 919-245-4274
