Pop Up Museum: A History of Hope – Part 1

A History of Hope, a two-part exhibit, spans from 1793-1930 and begins to tell the history of Chapel Hill. The exhibit emphasizes hope’s power to unite and motivate the Chapel Hill community since the town’s origin. Aiming to educate about our past to inspire hope for a better future, the Chapel Hill

Historical Society lends this exhibit to the Seymour Center in an ongoing pop-up museum series.

Strong and Steady

Focuses on full-body strengthening and balance exercises using exercise bands, hand weights, and ankle weights. The class incorporates exercises that are reviewed and recommended by well-studied programs of the Arthritis Foundation of America, A Matter of Balance, Fit and Strong, and the Otago balance program. Gentle Joy of Yoga

The practice of yoga - including stretching and strengthening exercises, its breathing and relaxation techniques - can help improve your sense of well-being. Yoga is an ideal form of exercise as its movements are smooth and adaptable offering opportunities to promote good bone health as well as gain strength and flexibility in your spine and joints. LGBTQ+ Summer Dinner and a Movie

Join us as we bring back our monthly dinner and movie series with a new twist! We will embrace our opportunities to share good films, great company, and delicious potlucks! Each month will feature a new movie that celebrates the joys, struggles and journeys of the LGBTQ+ community.  Contact method is required upon registration for potluck participation. Building Blocks of Dramatic Writing

Learn the building blocks of playwriting for beginners in this 4-week course. Participants will create a draft of a 10-minute play and at the end of the course, actors from the Blue Box Theatre Company will bring the scripts to life in a staged reading at the Seymour Theatre for an audience of your friends and fellow participants. Are you a puzzle fan? Come enjoy a fun day of puzzles! Bring your gently used jigsaw puzzles (with ALL their pieces) and swap them out for something different! Petrykivka: Ukraine Folk Art Workshop

Petrykivka is a cultural folk art, originating from about the 18th Century in southeastern Ukraine. The name of the painting style derives from the village of Petrykivka (Dnipro region). Enjoy a session learning the history and creating this folk art custom. Workshop will enable you to embrace historical and spiritual consciousness of this unique art. Instructor: Donna Goldstein. A class for those photographers ready for the next step. Here is an opportunity to learn about 'bracketing' and 'exposure blending' to create a more pleasing image under harsh lighting conditions. Based on the Jungian concept that we all carry in our psyche many 'selves' that can offer us profound wisdom, Soul Collage is a form of self-discovery. This wisdom is deeper than words and isn’t about "figuring things out". Join us to watch and discuss How one small idea led to $1 million of paid water bills. When a computer programmer learned that thousands of people in Detroit were facing water shutoffs because they couldn't afford to pay their bills, she took action – in the simplest, most obvious way possible. This inspiring story shows that each of us can find our own way to help the world. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and is owned by a non-profit, non-partisan foundation.
