Welcome to OCDOA Upcoming Programs, our monthly newsletter featuring select events and classes for the coming month. Programs are listed chronologically by event date from earliest to latest. Save on Medicare Costs! Review Plans Annually. Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Part D Drug Plans change every year - Don’t be surprised in January!

An evening of open performances in which creators get five minutes to express themselves through music, poetry, sketch comedy, prose, rap, improvisation, dance, rants, stand-up comedy – anything goes. Sign in to perform up to an hour before show time, cast, rehearsed, and put on stage in front of a live audience. Leave your cares, woes and critical judgement at the door.

 Following the three-year COVID pandemic, many older adults have experienced an increase in challenges related to social isolation, anxiety, depression, and hoarding. Welcome back Elizabeth Hirsch as she explains the relationship between these factors, how you can support individuals struggling with hoarding challenges, and how The Downsizers might can help. NC Regional Lacemaker's – Lace Day
 An unknown writer said, “Lace is thread surrounded by air.” A very simple, but appropriate description of the beautiful, handmade lace artifacts created by lacemakers. Come meet lacemakers from the Carolinas and Virginia, see some of their lovely work, and learn about the different types of lace and how they are made. If you like, you can try out doing the simple movements of the thread-filled bobbins that create these works of art on a demonstration lace pillow.

This event recognizes direct care workers (nurse aides, personal care aides, companion caregivers, etc.) who served clients in Orange County within the past year, making a difference in the community in in the lives of their clients on a daily basis. Ngoma Self Care 
This class borrows elements of the Central African healing tradition called “ngoma”, coming together in dance with drum rhythms to deal with life issues.   The activity will involve meditation, dancing to drums and discussion.

Wednesdays@One Poetry Group brings poetry readings to the stage! Who Stole My Heart Away

Join us to watch and discuss – The Secret Life of Dogs. Some think dogs love us just like we love them; others see them as having only instinct and no complex feelings. The truth, according to animal behaviorist Julia Espinosa, lies somewhere in between. In this talk, she and her canine guest star explain how and why we should challenge our assumptions about animal behavior. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and is owned by a non-profit, non-partisan foundation. Min: 5/Max: 8.
