Holiday Winter Luncheon

A Trip Down Memoir Lane
In this program, local writer Randy B. Young offers advice to those seeking or starting to write an engaging nonfiction history. He aims to help writers get past the hurdles to mine those inspirational and entertaining stories that have impacted their lives and those of others. Randy's positive, informational format will help you commit your memories to the words that are “just write.” Min: 8/Max: 25

CarFit and Winter Check
Prepare for winter weather and celebrate Older Driver Safety Awareness Week by checking both your fit in your driver’s seat and the health of your vehicle. Department on Aging Staff will provide CarFit consultations about adjusting your vehicle to fit your body’s needs. Additional appointments will be available to check your vehicle's tire pressure, battery status, and wiper fluid.

Mebane Historical Museum and Train Display
This is a special event at the Mebane Historical Museum followed by their well-known train display next-door. Transportation is not available for this event but we hope enough participants can meet there and enjoy time together. Directions will be provided to those who sign up.

Puzzle People 
Do you love jigsaw puzzles? Are you ready to swap out the puzzles you've completed for something new? You're in luck! Puzzle People will gather every other month to swap puzzles. There are simple exchange rules to keep things fair, but any jigsaw puzzle (with all its pieces) is welcomed and can be swapped.

See More Wednesdays
An evening of open performances in which creators get five minutes to express themselves through music, poetry, sketch comedy, prose, rap, improvisation, dance, stand–up comedy – anything goes. To perform, sign in up to an hour before show time. Cast, rehearsed, and put on stage in front of a live audience. Leave your cares, woes, and critical judgement at the door.

Spanish Level 1 (Beginner)
Level 1 is a course designed for the true beginner, someone who has had no previous experience with the Spanish language. It covers basic vocabulary, the differences between ser and estar, possessives, and verbs in the present tense. The activities in Level 1 focus on helping each student speak Spanish using a controlled and limited vocabulary. Class fee is $60/ month (4 weeks). Holiday Market
Find a unique gift for that "hard to buy for" person, or shop for yourself. The Friends of the Passmore Center will sell hot dogs, drinks, and goodies while you shop for handmade items through the market. Staged Reading: The Christmas Chicken
On Christmas Eve in Victorian England, lonely blind boy Jack wishes for a dog. A chicken named King falls down the chimney instead. Unable to see, Jack believes it's a dog and they bond, having heartwarming adventures with Jack's poor family, clever uncle, and big-hearted urchins who help thwart a villain. This funny, comforting play is a Christmas delight. Min: 30/ Max: 80.

Classic Film Series
 Join us for the December 10 movie The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne. In January we'll see a Japanese comedy, Tampopo. We're tickled to be offering Mel Brooks' hilarious Young Frankenstein in February. Our classic film series, led by Gail and Michael Corrado, will include viewing the film and open discussion afterwards.

Art Exhibit: Brandon Day
Brandon Day was always inspired by his mother's art and her ability to capture colorful moments on canvas. After she transitioned, he felt a strong desire to share her incredible artistic talent with the surrounding community. Join him for the opening reception of his late mother's work on Wed, Dec 13. Holiday Cello Concert
Local cellist Clara Yang will perform alongside her cello students in this spirited holiday program. Music will include a variety of classical, folk, and Christmas carols. To give back this holiday season, Clara and her students are collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service during this event. Any contributions are welcome.

Classical and Holiday Piano Music with Jack
Join us for a concert of classical and holiday piano music with Jack Chen. He is a talented sixth grader at Smith Middle School and piano student of Ms. Ying Zhu since age 6. He was a first prize winner at the Orbetello International Piano Competition and received honorable mention at the Peter Perret Youth Talent Search concerto competition. He hopes that his music brings joy and happiness.

Join OCDoA’s dementia care specialists for a conversation around topics related to dementia education, living with cognitive change, and being a dementia caregiver. We will provide 15-30 minutes of education at the start of the hour, and the remaining time will be spent in conversation, Q&A, and resource-sharing around the day’s topic.

TED Talks at Passmore: Animal Tales from Icy Wonderlands
Watch a pre-recorded TED Talk with the group and share your thoughts. This month’s featured TED Talk: Animal Tales from Icy Wonderlands. A photographer shares his hilarious, passionate stories of the polar wonderlands, illustrated by glorious images of animals who live on and under the ice. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design and is owned by a non-profit, non-partisan foundation. Min: 5/Max: 8.
