A Grand Affair - Celebrating Wall of Honor Veterans

For 5 years we have celebrated over 100+ veterans who’ve been recognized through the Wall of Honor program. This November, we’ll salute all the recipients who’ve been a part of this unique experience. Come, help us celebrate our veterans at this grand affair featuring guest speaker, Lee Heavin, Master Chief Petty Officer, US Navy, Retired a patriotic musical presentation by the Village Band; unveiling of the new multi-media Wall of Honor - as well as a “meet and greet” heavy appetizers reception with fellow honorees.  Max: 200

Holiday Bazaar

Find a unique gift for that “hard to buy for” person on your list, or just shop for yourself during our Annual Holiday Bazaar. Enjoy music and other entertainment as you browse the many vendors to get a jump on your holiday shopping.

If you are interested in becoming a vendor, registration forms are available at the Passmore Center or online at www.passmorecenterfriends.org. Vendors are accepted on a first come basis. 

The Friends of the Passmore Center will be selling hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, and other items.

Highlighting a Master Aging Plan - Community Support & Health Services success story:

• Green Burial Event:  Green burial options are now being offered in the county, and educational programs on this end of life option are being provided.  UMC Church now offers families the option to choose green burial for themselves or their loved ones.  On September 25th the Passmore Center hosted a screening of the documentary, A Will for the Woods.  This documentary provided further education on this end of life choice, as well as opportunities for discussion with representatives from Pine Forest Memorial Gardens and Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest, NC

Health Department Nutrition Counseling Services

The Health Department offers Nutrition Counseling with a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist who works with your medical provider to help you prevent or manage medical conditions such as: diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or weight management. During the appointment, the dietitian will review your medical history, medications, labs, diet and lifestyle patterns, and develop a personalized nutrition plan to help you with your health goals. A medical provider’s referral is needed to schedule an appointment.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 919-245-2380.
 
Fees: Medicare and most private insurances accepted; fees are on a sliding scale with scholarships available.

Lunch Program

Volunteers Needed

Help prepare and serve lunch from 11:30 - 1:00 pm at the Seymour Center. Interested? Please call Isabel Jackson, 919-245-4256. 

 SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM 

The Senior Lunch Program offers hot, nutritious meals at the Orange County Senior Centers each Monday through Friday at noon. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orange County residents 60 years and older are invited to participate. For people under age 60, a meal costs $6. Voluntary and confidential donations for lunch are a very important part of the Program's budget which includes funding from the Older Americans Act, Orange County Government, and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.

Medicare Assistance

Mary Saved $500 on her Medicare Costs. How Much Can You Save?

Did you know that Medicare Part D Drug Plans and Part C Advantage Plans change every year?  Your medication costs can increase significantly if your plan changes their drug list and pricing as of Jan 1.  Most people on Medicare can only make changes to their plans during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period:  Tue, Oct 15 to Sat, Dec 7. 
 
Make an appointment for a personal Annual Medicare Review with a certified counselor from the NC Department of Insurance.  Appointments are available at the Passmore Center in Hillsborough, and the Seymour Center in Chapel Hill.  Schedule online at www.orangecountync.gov/ocncSHIIP or call 919-245-4274.

Sitting Pretty - Presented by Odyssey Stage

A show within a show, the play features a group of New York actors who perform the popular and beloved Mr. Belvedere radio play in front of a live audience. Sitting Pretty is the story of a suburban couple, Harry and Tacey King, their 3 rambunctious, young boys and one obnoxious dog. Tacey places an ad for a nanny and her sight unseen. When the mysterious “Lynn” Belvedere shows up all sorts of pandemonium ensues.

Come see this charming comedy, a story that is as touching as it is fun!

Veterans Celebration Breakfast

If you are a Veteran, we would like to honor and recognize you at a special Veterans Celebration Breakfast.

Guest speaker, Bobby Williams, Captain Tennessee Army National Guard 1979 - 1999, has worked in the AIT industry for 25 years in technical roles, and is currently an Information Security Officer for a global Fortune 500 company.  He’s an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 43 in Hillsborough, and is a Senior Member of the Orange Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol.

Tax Assistance

New VITA Volunteer Orientation

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax assistance for eligible low and moderate income taxpayers of any age.  We have over 70 volunteers and complete over 1,500 tax returns from February-April each year. 

Tax help is provided at both the Seymour Center and the Passmore Center.  Volunteers assist in a variety of roles including office assistance, receptionist, computer support as well as tax preparers.
