MAP MomentsHighlighting a Master Aging Plan - Community Support & Health Services success story: - Green Burial Event: Green burial options are now being offered in the county, and educational programs on this end of life option are being provided. UMC Church now offers families the option to choose green burial for themselves or their loved ones. On September 25th the Passmore Center hosted a screening of the documentary, A Will for the Woods. This documentary provided further education on this end of life choice, as well as opportunities for discussion with representatives from Pine Forest Memorial Gardens and Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest, NC

The rural O.C. economy went from primary crops of cotton, tobacco, timber, then to dairy and eventually to beef cattle. Health Department Nutrition Counseling ServicesThe Health Department offers Nutrition Counseling with a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist who works with your medical provider to help you prevent or manage medical conditions such as: diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or weight management. During the appointment, the dietitian will review your medical history, medications, labs, diet and lifestyle patterns, and develop a personalized nutrition plan to help you with your health goals. SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM The Senior Lunch Program offers hot, nutritious meals at the Orange County Senior Centers each Monday through Friday at noon. Meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orange County residents 60 years and older are invited to participate. For people under age 60, a meal costs $6. Voluntary and confidential donations for lunch are a very important part of the Program's budget which includes funding from the Older Americans Act, Orange County Government, and the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.

New VITA Volunteer OrientationThe Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is sponsored by the IRS and provides free tax assistance for eligible low and moderate income taxpayers of any age. We have over 70 volunteers and complete over 1,500 tax returns from February-April each year.
Tax help is provided at both the Seymour Center and the Passmore Center. Volunteers assist in a variety of roles including office assistance, receptionist, computer support as well as tax preparers.
