OCPL’s Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service allows patrons to access books and articles not currently available in our collection. This service is open to any patron with an active account in good standing (fines not exceeding $5.00.)
Before submitting an ILL request, we encourage you to search our catalog and digital platforms such as Hoopla, Libby and NC LIVE to ensure the desired material is not already accessible through those resources.
Key Guidelines for Interlibrary Loan Requests:
- Each patron may have up to 4 active ILL requests at a time.
- OCPL does not charge a fee for most ILL requests. However, printed articles may incur a nominal fee.
- Articles obtained through ILL are provided in PDF format, or they can be printed at a rate of $0.15 per black-and-white page, and $0.25 per color page.
- Damaged or unreturned items will be assessed a replacement fee set by the lending library, with a minimum of $100.00.
- Availability and delivery times of requested items are subject to the lending library’s policies. Patrons will be notified when items are ready for pickup, or if they cannot be acquired through ILL.
- ILL items are not eligible for renewal.
- Certain items are not eligible for ILL requests:
- NC Newspapers, serials, videos, CDs (music and audiobooks), DVDs, e-books and e-audiobooks
- Rare Book and Special Collections materials
- Books published during the past year (You can suggest a purchase for these items here.)
ILL requests can be placed in person, over the phone, or by filling out this form.
