Broadband Task Force

The Orange County Board of Commissioners adopted the following charge for the Broadband Task Force:

1. To discuss broadband solutions that will improve the quality of high-speed internet services to Orange County residents. 
2. To recommend a plan to the Board of Orange County Commissioners to expand reliable high-speed internet services to all county residents and businesses.  
3. To update and track broadband coverage needs as state and federal program awards are made.
4. To consult with county staff on how to best communicate information related to broadband coverage to other residents.

The task force may, at its discretion, consider additional issues beyond the four outlined above.

Members

Commissioners Earl McKee and Sally Greene were chosen to represent the BOCC as co-chairs of the 12-member task force. The other members are: Travis Myren, Orange County Manager; Robert Reynolds, Orange County Chief Information Officer; Doug Noell, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Chief IT Operations Officer; Ryan Miller, Orange County Schools Executive Director of Information and Instructional Technology; Scott J. Neal, Durham Technical Community College; Andrew Leeb; Eric Kurtz; Patricia Hull; Patrick Murphy and Terri Buckner.
