The Community Dinner is a community-building event that crosses economic, racial, religious, and ethnic barriers. It presents a wealth of culturally diverse food and entertainment from within our own community. In 2014, the Community Dinner received a National League of Cities Award for Cultural Diversity.
Mildred Council, also known as "Mama Dip," was the creator of this event and served as our inspiration and partner for 21 Community Dinners. She was a passionate advocate for celebrating cultural diversity and is deeply missed. Her legacy continues through her children and grandchildren.
Mama Dip’s family, in collaboration with the Carolina Inn, will coordinate the menu and provide the dinner’s main courses. We are honored that the Council family continues their involvement in this event that meant so much to their mother. Additionally, many local restaurants and churches donate side dishes and desserts, offering attendees the opportunity to taste food from a variety of community partners all in one place.
You can make a one-time or recurring donation to support the Community Dinner by visiting this donation page. Once there, create an account, navigate to the donation section, and select “Community Dinner” from the “Select a Fund” drop-down menu.
