Join the Orange County Human Relations Commission and the Office of Equity & Inclusion on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bonnie B. Davis Environment & Agricultural Center (1020 US 70 West, Hillsborough, NC 27278) or online for a special event centered on the book "Escape from Slavery: The True Story of My Ten Years in Captivity and My Journey to Freedom in America" by Francis Bok with Edward Tivnan.
This powerful memoir shares Bok's experiences as a child enslaved in Sudan and his extraordinary journey toward freedom.
The event will feature selected readings from the book, followed by a discussion facilitated by the Human Relations Commission. Whether or not you’ve read the book, you are invited to attend and participate in a meaningful dialogue about the themes of slavery, freedom, and resilience.
This is an opportunity to come together as a community, deepen our understanding of global and historical injustices, and be inspired by Bok’s story of strength and perseverance.
Audio and hard copies of the book are available through the Orange County Public Library.
This event will be held both in-person and virtually. Please let us know you’re coming by registering at www.orangecountync.gov/BookRead.
