Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber Optic Internet and Total Home Wi-Fi service provider in the Mid-Atlantic, announced a significant achievement that more than 1,500 previously unserved families and businesses have gained access to fiber internet in Orange County. The milestone underscores Lumos' commitment to help bridge the digital divide and is made possible by a substantial public-private partnership with Orange County.

Lumos' fiber internet infrastructure currently serves over 7,000 homes and businesses in Orange County, encompassing more than 3,000 unserved locations that previously lacked high-speed internet access.

In April 2022, Orange County partnered with Lumos with $10 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to serve more than 6,300 families and businesses. In August 2023, Lumos announced its pledge to expand the project further by investing millions to reach an additional 22,000 addresses.

"Lumos' partnership with Orange County represents the importance placed on fast, reliable internet access in today's society," said Lumos CEO Brian Stading. "We exceeded the project's original scope because we firmly believe that every member of our community deserves access to high-speed internet in both their residences and workplaces."

"Bringing affordable, high-speed internet service to all of Orange County has long been a goal of the Board of Commissioners, and we are pleased to see the progress being made in our partnership with Lumos," said Jamezetta Bedford, Chair of the Orange County Board of Commissioners. "Orange County is one of the first counties in the state to use ARPA funds to bridge the digital divide and ensure all our residents have access to education, healthcare and other critical services."

By connecting underserved areas with high-speed fiber internet, Lumos provides communities the opportunities to foster thriving education systems, advance business development and much more.
