September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, a national campaign to emphasize the importance of having a library card. To spread awareness about the importance of the public library and the free resources that come with having a library card, the Orange County Public Library has a month of exciting events and giveaways planned throughout the month of September.

Ways to Win:

New Library Card Raffle

Throughout September, when patrons sign up for a library card at either the Main Library in Hillsborough or the Cybrary in Carrboro, new library cardholders will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite! Plus, they will be given a Welcome Bag with information about National Library Card Sign-Up Month, library card info, and OCPL swag.

Social Media Giveaway

Throughout September, patrons will have the chance to win a Cozy Book Lovers Basket on OCPL’s social media pages. This basket has items perfect for readers who like to get cozy when they read. More information about this raffle will be posted on Orange County Public Library’s (OCPL) Facebook and Instagram pages during the first week of September.

Ways to Save:

Free Replacement Cards

During September, if patrons have lost or damaged their library cards, they receive a new library card for free.

Discounts and Promotions

Throughout September, library cardholders are invited to stop by one of OCPL’s partnering locations and show them their library card for a special discount or promotion. A complete list of our partnering businesses and organizations are listed in this brochure:

Events and Programs:

Bookmark Contest:

Patrons are invited to show off their creativity! The Orange County Public Library invites patrons of all ages to design a bookmark that captures our library's spirit and community. The Theme is “Celebrating Stories.” Create a design that reflects the library's role in celebrating stories, imagination, and community. This contest is open to all patrons, ages 0-99. Entries can be submitted individually or in groups. The deadline is September 25.

“Library” themed Storytime:

On Tuesday, September 10th, children from walkers to age 5 and their caregivers are invited to participate in a 25-minute interactive “library” themed program that incorporates age-appropriate books, rhymes, music, and movement.

K-5th Grade Programs:

Children who attend the K-5th grade programs are invited to bring a friend with them. If participants bring a friend, they will receive a Brag Tag.

Library tours: Patrons are invited to attend guided tours of the Orange County Public Library in Hillsborough. Tours will occur on Saturday, September 14 from 11 am-12 pm, and Wednesday, September 25 from 12 pm to 1pm.

Outreach:

Orange County Public Library will be hosting information sessions at a location near you. Community members are invited to stop by the library’s table to sign up for a library card, find out about upcoming programs and events, or grab some library swag.
