Orange County, North Carolina Tax Administrator Nancy Freeman reminds property owners that property taxes for 2024 are due. Tax bills were mailed in early August and became payable on September 1, 2024. To avoid interest charges, payments must be received or postmarked by Monday, January 6, 2025.
After the grace period ends, a 2% interest penalty will be added to unpaid balances on January 7, 2025, with an additional 0.75% interest applied on the first day of each subsequent month until the balance is paid. Taxes not paid by the deadline will be considered delinquent and subject to collection enforcement.
Failure to receive a tax statement does not exempt property owners from paying taxes or late penalties. Property owners who have not received their statement should contact the Tax Office at (919) 245-2100.
