Alan Dorman has been named Orange County Asset Management Director effective immediately, announced Orange County Manager Bonnie Hammersley. She appointed Dorman interim director in April following the retirement of Steve Arndt.

“Alan is familiar with all county operations and facilities and has played a key role as Project Manager for the 203 Greensboro Project in Carrboro,” said Hammersley. “He brings management experience and hands-on expertise to the position.”

Dorman has been with Orange County Asset Management Services since March 2004. He was initially hired as a Management Analyst for the department. In 2015 he was promoted to Business Officer and served as Interim Department Director from January-August 2019. He served most recently as Assistant Director from September 2019 through March 2024 before becoming interim director.

Asset Management Services is responsible for the development, operations, maintenance, and optimization of 45 county-owned or leased properties with 31 employees and an annual budget of $5 million.

“I have worked for the residents and staff of Orange County for over twenty years, and I am very excited to continue that work in this new role,” said Dorman.

Before coming to Orange County, Dorman worked for three years as an internal auditor for Prince William County, Va. He earned a bachelor’s degree in politic science (1998) and a master’s degree in public administration (2000) from Old Dominion University.

He has completed many advanced training programs, including courses in Construction Management, Facilities Engineering Management, and Energy Management, and is a licensed North Carolina real estate agent.
