The Orange County Office of Equity & Inclusion is proud to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by sharing a curated list of events taking place across Orange County. These events aim to bring the community together to reflect on Dr. King’s impactful work and inspire continued efforts toward equity and inclusion.

MLK Day Events Schedule

January 17 – Orange County

January 18 – Carrboro

  • Youth-Led MLK Celebration
    Location: Century Hall, Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro, NC 27510
    Time: 1:00 PM
    Details: An inspiring event led by local youth to honor Dr. King’s legacy.

January 19 – Hillsborough & Chapel Hill

  • Hillsborough:
    • 2:00 PM: Gathering at the Orange County Historical Courthouse (104 E. King St., Hillsborough, NC 27278), followed by a march to Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
    • 3:00 PM: 30th Anniversary MLK Day Program at Mount Zion Baptist Church (5124 Hwy 86 North, Hillsborough, NC 27278).

  • Chapel Hill:
    • 5:00 PM: Coffee and dessert reception at the Friday Center (100 Friday Center Dr., Chapel Hill, NC 27517).
    • 6:00 PM: Keynote address by Dr. Donovan Livingston, Teaching Assistant Professor at UNC-Chapel Hill.
