September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, and the first 200 individuals who sign up for a card during the month will receive a tote bag, perfect for carrying the items you will borrow from the Orange County Public Library. The library provides cards free of charge to residents of Orange, Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham or Person County, and employees with Orange County Government, Town of Hillsborough, Town of Carrboro, Durham Tech and UNC-Health Care.
To get your library card, come to one of our locations in Hillsborough or Carrboro. You will need to bring with you a picture ID or proof of residence or place of employment and fill out a short form. If you would like to get a head start on the sign-up process you can do so online.
Library card holders enjoy free access to:
- A well-curated collection of print materials, including graphic novels, comics, classics and current best-sellers,
- Book Club Kits and Lucky Day Collections,
- Downloadable books, movies, and music through hoopla and OverDrive,
- Language instruction, resume tips, market research and other business services through NC LIVE.
The Orange County Public Library has four locations: The Main Library at 137 W. Margaret Lane, downtown Hillsborough; the Carrboro Branch at McDougle Middle School, 900 Old Fayetteville Road, Chapel Hill; the Cybrary at The Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro Street, Carrboro; and, the Library Station, a 24/7 self-serve kiosk at the Cedar Grove Community Center, 5800 N. 86, Hillsborough. Free parking is available at all locations.
