[ARCHIVED] Orange County announces recipients of 2019 Direct Care Worker Outstanding Service Awards

Orange County Department on Aging and the Senior Health Advocacy and Resource Partners of Orange County (SHARP) honored 31 individuals for their outstanding service in long-term care on May 9 during the SHARP Direct Care Worker Award ceremony.

This event recognizes direct care workers (nurse aides, personal care aides, companion caregivers, etc.) who served clients in Orange County within the past year, making a difference in their clients’ lives on a daily basis and in the community.

Commissioner Renee Price represented the Board of Orange County Commissioners and recognized all 31 nominees including 10 individuals who received the following 2019 SHARP Direct Care Worker awards:

Client Impact Award: Pearl McGill and Christina Rich 

Going the Extra Mile Award: Chastity Bullock-Sassone and Tom Riley

Leadership Award: Lynette Moore and Melvin Brodie

Longevity Award: Patricia Miller

Rising Star Award: Evelyn Zacatenco-Trejo and Mariah Littlejohn

Direct Care Worker of the Year: Rodah Samuel

Employers of the award winners were also honored at the awards ceremony, which took place at the Passmore Center in Hillsborough.

The 2019 SHARP Direct Care Worker awardee employers are as follows:

Carol Woods, Homewatch Caregivers, Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, Nurse Care of North Carolina, Piedmont Health Services, Right at Home of Durham & Chapel Hill, and Wisdom Senior Care.
