[ARCHIVED] County to host information meeting on Northern County Campus project

County Campus Map

Orange County will host a neighborhood information meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Link Building (200 S. Cameron Street, Hillsborough) to update residents of the status of the Northern County Campus project. The meeting will be from 5-6 p.m.

Staff from the county as well as representatives from the Construction Manager at Risk will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. Maps and drawings of the project will be available. The campus is located off Highway 70 in Hillsborough.

In February 2019, the Board of Commissioners reviewed schematic design cost estimates for the Northern County Campus and authorized a total budget of $40.2 million. Substantial completion is scheduled for March 2021, and final completion is scheduled for May 2021.

The Northern County Campus project includes three primary components:

  • A new Detention Center with 144 beds in approximately 48,900 square feet. The new facility would replace the existing facility located in downtown Hillsborough that was originally constructed in 1925 with additions and modifications occurring in the early 1980s and mid-1990s.

  • A new 17,200 square foot Environment and Agriculture Center (EAC) to replace the office building currently located on Revere Road that houses the Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR), Cooperative Extension, Farm Service Agency, and Soil and Water Conservation.
  • A new 8,500 square foot Parks Operations Base to replace scattered facilities and a base and shop at Millhouse Road Park that is used primarily for office space and equipment storage.
