The Orange County Human Relations Commission will hold its Annual Community Forum on Monday, Oct. 28. "Protest Peril: Understanding First Amendment Rights" will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Whitted Building (300 W. Tryon St., Hillsborough).

A panel of legal experts will discuss how today's politically charged environment impacts the first amendment. Panelists include:

  • Mark Dorosin, Managing Attorney, Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights Regional Office, and Orange County Commissioner
  • Ted Shaw, Julius L. Chambers Distinguished Professor of Law and the Director of the UNC Center for Civil Rights
  • Stephanie Perry-Terry, Small Business Owner and Community Activist

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Community Forums are designed to generate discussion and critical thinking about a timely topic. The HRC hopes to follow their charge by providing education and a space for community bonding.
