Orange County DSS, in conjunction with Toys for Tots, conducts an annual holiday program to provide toys for children in need throughout Orange County. To ensure success, volunteers are needed each year to help collect toys and aid in the operation of the actual event right before Christmas.

As the holiday season is approaching, DSS is in great need of volunteers for several events:

  • UNC basketball games on Thursday, December 5th at 6:00 PM and Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 PM

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the events above, please call the Holiday Hotline at (919) 245-2821 or send an email to holidayprogram@orangecountync.gov.

If you would like to volunteer for the actual holiday event on December 21st or 22nd, please contact Veronica Burnette at (919) 245-2858 or vburnette@orangecountync.gov. Volunteers are needed to serve as escorts to assist families select gifts as well as sort and re-stock toys.

Successful operation of the Holiday Program is heavily dependent on toy donations and volunteers. The overwhelming generosity of the community is greatly appreciated and helped to provide new, unwrapped toys and clothes to more than 2,400 children last year. With your help, we can once again help Santa visit all of the children this year.

If you would like to learn more about how you can help, visit our Holiday Program website, email holidayprogram@orangecountync.gov or call (919) 245-2821.
