The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that provides for a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills.

Households are eligible to sign up for assistance from through March 31 or until funds are exhausted. The program is managed by the Orange County Department of Social Services.

Who must be included in the LIEAP Application?

Everyone who lives at the same residence, unless known to be a boarding house or separate apartment. If it is a known boarding house or separate apartment, there must be a written or lease agreement.

Undocumented immigrants are not included in the number in the household but are counted in the reserve limit and prorated share of their income is counted in the budget.

Households have the option to include or exclude foster children in the LIEAP case. If the child is included, count income of the child and foster care payment. If the child is not included, exclude all income of the child including the foster care payment.
