Orange County Government has entered into a new license agreement with TABLE Ministries, Inc., a local nonprofit focused on childhood hunger, to support expanded agricultural operations that will help address food insecurity throughout the community. The agreement, approved by the Orange County Board of Commissioners on May 20, 2025, was officially signed on June 11, 2025.
Under this three-year agreement, TABLE will immediately begin using designated land at the site of the future Twin Creeks Park (8016 Old NC 86). The partnership allows TABLE to increase its production of fresh fruits and vegetables that will be distributed directly to children in Orange County who are experiencing food insecurity.
“This agreement marks an important step toward the county’s commitment to supporting innovative, community-based solutions to hunger,” said David Stancil, director of the Orange County Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR). “By utilizing a portion of a land-banked future park site, this production provides a community function in the meantime, reflective of our shared goal of strengthening local food systems while helping our neighbors in need.”
Chair of the Orange County Board of County Commissioners, Jamezetta Bedford, praised the collaboration.
“We are proud to partner with TABLE in this meaningful effort to nourish our children and strengthen our community. Using public land for sustainable agriculture is a powerful example of how local government can work hand-in-hand with nonprofits to build a healthier, more equitable future for all residents.”
The Carrboro-based nonprofit delivers healthy food every week to more than 1,100 children in Orange County. The county encourages residents to follow TABLE’s efforts, volunteer, or contribute to support their mission.
