Foster Opportunities

Are you wanting to help pets at Orange County Animal Services but aren't ready to commit to adoption? Consider fostering! We need fosters for:

  • Cats & Kittens: Fostering nursing moms and babies OR kittens too young for adoption.
    • In this program, foster parents care for pets until they are big enough to return to the shelter and go onto the adoption floor. The majority of these pets are small kittens or moms with nursing kittens. Please go here to learn more about fostering kittens.
  • Dogs & Puppies
  • Pocket Pets: Gerbils, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, etc.
  • Livestock: Chickens, Pigs, Goats, etc.
  • SAFE Foster: Support for Animals and Families in Emergencies (SAFE) helps pet owners experiencing extended hospital stays, homelessness, and other issues (such as displacement due to disasters) that may prevent them from caring for their beloved pets. Please go here to learn more about becoming a SAFE foster.

NOT READY TO BE A FOSTER PARENT JUST YET? DOG DAY OUT PROGRAM!

  • Field trips are a great way to help dogs engage with the community, reduce kennel stress, and learn social skills. Field trips are helpful in marketing dogs for adoption, as potential adopters want to know more about a dog outside of their shelter kennel. Field trips are fun, but field trips with dogs are better! Whether it’s a trip to Starbucks for a pup cup, a hike, or a quiet nap on your couch – our dogs love to go on adventures with humans! Click here for more information about the Dog Day Out program.
