Housing Helpline

Who We Are

The Orange County Housing Helpline is a centralized resource provided by the Orange County Housing Department and the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness. Launched in April 2020, its goal is to support residents experiencing housing instability by offering guidance, financial assistance, eviction support, and referrals to homelessness services. It’s a “one-stop” resource where calls are answered live in over 200 languages during business hours, and for overflow, voicemail, and email support is provided.

How We Help

Information and Referral                                                                                                                                                           Experienced and compassionate staff will have a non-judgmental conversation with you. Based on what you tell them, they will make the best possible referral to resources either in the Housing Department or elsewhere in Orange County. We can also provide listings for affordable rental units in Orange County.

Eviction Diversion                                                                                                                                                                            If you have received a court summons and you need legal assistance, Orange County's Housing Department has staff who can provide basic legal information about evictions, offer legal advice tailored to your situation, and potentially represent you in court. This is a free service. Find out more about Orange County's Eviction Diversion program here.

Homeless Services                                                                                                                                                                           If you've been homeless for two weeks or more, the Housing Helpline can help you take the first step toward finding long-term housing. This step is called a Coordinated Entry interview, which takes about 45 minutes to complete. We can do this interview in person or over the phone.

NOTE:

  • There is no same-day shelter available in Orange County.
  • Housing Helpline staff are not shelter workers. We assist individuals in getting on the shelter referral list.
  • Orange County provides Cold Weather Cots (November 1st-March 31st) on a first-come, first-served basis when temperatures are forecasted to drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Housing Helpline staff cannot assist with housing searches. Instead, we refer you to organizations that may be able to help with that process.
