Eviction Diversion Program
The goal of Orange County's Eviction Diversion Program is to help tenants avoid eviction, and when possible, to keep you in your home. The program also exists to help resolve issues between you and your landlord.
If your landlord says they are evicting you...
They must go through the court process to make that happen. We can offer you free legal advice about your housing issues and possible representation in court. To apply for help:
STEP 1 - Contact the Orange County Housing Helpline.
- By phone (919) 245-2655, Monday-Friday 10am-4 pm. Leave a detailed message with your phone number and an email address if you have one. If you have a court date, please include that in your message. OR
- By email housinghelp@orangecountync.gov. Provide as much information as you can, including a court date , your phone number, and copies/pictures of any court papers.
STEP 2 - The Housing Helpline will return your phone call or email during business hours. Make sure your phone is set up to receive voicemails and your voicemail is not full. Housing Helpline staff will confirm your information and refer your case to the Eviction Diversion Program if you need legal assistance.
STEP 3 - Be ready for a phone call or email from Eviction Diversion staff. Prepare any documents or information you want to share ahead of time. Examples include: your lease, notices from your landlord, emails/text messages with your landlord, photographs, etc. Make sure your phone is set up to receive voicemails and your voicemail is not full.
** If you are summoned to court, you must show up on your court date or your landlord could win the case.**
