Nutrition Counseling and Diabetes Management
The Orange County Health Department’s nutrition counseling and diabetes services help people prevent and manage health conditions. We are here to help you and your family eat well, prevent illness, and manage health concerns in a simple and supportive way.
Nutrition counseling can help you with:
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol, heart problems, and high blood pressure
- Eating well
- Setting healthy weight goals
- Digestive problems
- Fixing eating habits that may be unsafe or harmful
During our in-person diabetes management classes you will learn about:
- What affects blood sugar
- Planning healthy meals
- Exercising with diabetes
- Medications and how they work
- Tips to reduce blood sugar
Our classes follow DiabetesSmartNC guidelines and meet national standards set by the American Diabetes Association.

Our diabetes prevention class costs $25. You will receive gifts worth more than $200 (scales, exercise gear, fitness trackers, gift cards, or small kitchen tools).
In our prevention classes you will get support to:
- Be more active
- Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
- Work towards a healthy weight
- Manage stress with deep breathing, walking, or reading
